NATIVE AFFAIRS.
THE ROYAL COMMISSION. [From Oxtr Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, January 18. The Premier, in his speech at Dunedin to-night, is expected to announce the personnel of the Royal Commission on Native Affairs. I hear that there is a probability of the Commission being restricted to Sir Kobert Stout (Chief Justice) and Mr Ngata, M.H.R. With regard to the new judges of the Native Land Court, I tip Mr Gilfedder, exM.H.R., and Mr T. M. Fisher, president of the Maori Land Court district of Aotea, as the likely appointees. [Pan Press Association.] Mr H. F. Edgar, who was appointed Under-secretary to the Native Department last year, has asked to be relieved of his duties. It has been decided to accede to his request and appoint him a, judge of the Native Land Court. It is understood that a well-known South Island politician who was at one time a member of Parliament, will also be placed on the Native Lands Court Bench.
