The Gpvernpr left this morning for Timaru, where he will unveil a memorial monument to-day. Mr J. D. Ritchie, Secretary for Agriculture, arrived from Wellington by the I s.s. Mararoa this morning. The Wellington "Ppst" states that the following promotions, involving officers on the Australian Station, are an- : npunced :— Lieutenant Albert Charles ; Scott, of H.M.S. Euryalus, to be commander, and to remain on the station ; Gunnery-Lieutenant' Bertram S. Thesiger, of H.M,S. Euryalus, to be com- 1 mander, and to return to England; Lieutenant Arthur L- 0. Forbes-Semp- I hill, of H.M.S. Euryalus, to be commander; Sub-Lieutenant J. 0. Elliott, of H.M.S, Psyche, to bo lieutenant; Sub-Lieutenant C M. Queripel, ef H M,S. Phcobe, to be lieutenant. Mr W. S. Maslin was yesterday elected Mayor of the newly-constituted borough of Geraldine. A private cable message has been recoived from England announcing the sudden death of Commander the Hon F "Addington, who was formerly in command of H.M.S. Phoebe pn this station. , , The following passengers haye been booked for Wellington by the s.s. .
