♦- r— [Fkoii Ouk Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, November 10. The x - epresentative of a large Australian soft-goods firm, who ha6just completed an extended tour of the inland towns on the east and west coasts of thia island, states that the shopkeepers in the various districts through which he has travelled are up in arms against the Shops and Offices Bill passed this session, and that its effect will be to cost the Government huaidiredls of votes at the general election in December twelve months. He was immensely impressed with the abounding prosperity on all sides, and declares that New Zealand has a magnificent future ahead of it. Advices have been received here to the effect that an emissary of the Japanese Government is reported to be on his way to this colony for the purpose of arranging for shipments of foodstuffs for the Japanese troops now in the field. Inquiries on this head have already been made by a Sydney resident, acting on behalf of the Mikado's advisers, but the fact has been kept a close secret for grave reasons,
