Ellegaard ao-d Rutt have so far failed to win any cycling event at the Sydney carnival. A match is being arranged' with Megson and Don Walker for the champion- j ship of Australia. (Thorwald Ellegaard and Walter Xtutt are, the two riders who have been specially engaged by the Sydney Summer Nights' Amusem.'en'b Company to appear at tihe various cycling carnivals in the Commonwealth during the present season. Ellegaard has a world-wide reputation as a sprinter, and he gained the world's sprint ohampkmship tihrice in. succession — at Ber- j lin in 1901, Rome in 1902, and Copenhagen in 1903. At the recent world's championships, at Crystal Palace, he was dispossessed of the title by Ivor Laweon, the American rider, who visited Australia last season, and who is likely to do so again this year. Ellegaard! and Rutt only arrived in. Australia at the latter endi of last month, and their non-success ia doubtless due to the fact that they have not yet struck form. Rutt, who is Ellegaard's team-mate, rode prominently and with a good deal of success during the last European racing season. In connection with the ability of Rutt to visit Australia this year, it may be noted that he was due to serve in the German army from the beginning of last October, but an appeal was made to the Kaiser on his behalf to have tlhe commencement of his term of conscription postponed till next year, and apparently successfully so.
