JAPANESE REINFORCEMENTS.
THE ASSAULT ON PORT ARTHUR.. LONDON, November 9. Forty thousand infantry sailed on November 5 to join General Nogi and repair the losses entailed! by the Mikado's birthday assault^ -which are estimated at 20,000. It is reported in Chifu that ihe assault on Port Arthur has stopped in its intensity. A Russian cross fire rendered it impossible to hold all the guns and positions captured. An unofficial Tokio report states that operations are proceeding aatiefaotorily, though slowly.
