FIRES.
[Peb Press Association.] FETLDtVG, September 1. Hook's Denbigh Hotel •anxi Sample Rooms were totally destroyed -by fire at . two o'clock this morning, the occupant^ barely escaping. The Bank of New Zealand building on the opposite comer was, for some time, in danger, but tin* collapse of the hotel saved it. The insurances on the hotel and sample rooms axe: £775 on the stock and furniture; £500 in tlhe Phcenix Office on the building ; £875 in the London and Liverpool and' G-lods Office on the stock and furniture, and in the Couimsrcial Union Office £350. NELSON, September 1. At 2.30 this morning a fire broke out in a five-roomed house, in Shelbourne Street, occupied by Mr J. Toms, draper, and own- i ed by the executors of the late D. Fraser. | The place was gutted, though the fire brigade were promptly on the spot and 6aved | the adjoining buildings. The occupants j escaped in their night clothes. Insurances on the house are £150 in the London and Liverpool and Globe office, and on the j furniture £100 in the Imperial office. Very little was saved.
