♦ • ■» IN CHAMBERS. Tuesday, August 50. I His Honor Mr Justice Denniston held a j eittiug in Chambers at the Supreme Court this morning. PROBATE. Probate was granted of the wills of the j following deceased persons: — David Evans (Mr Malley), William Parker (Mr Flesher), Charles E. Dunning (Mr Cowliahaw), and . Henry Piper (Mr Bishop). ADMINISTRATION. Letters of administration were granted in the estates of the following deceased persons: — Caroline Hasletfc (Mr Widdowson), G. W. Blatchford (.Mr Russell), and . Elizabfth J. Jarden (Mr Pratt). | MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Graham applied *fior leave to sell certain property in the estate of Bailey and others. His Honor said that an order could nofc be made in the form asked. The ' proceeds of a sale must be safeguarded for an infant who would be the ultimate beneficiary, and the Public Trustee would be the proper person to take charge of the estate. The matter must stand over sine die for consideration. Mr Cowlishaw obtained an order for leave to lease certain property in the estate of M. H. Oram, tho lease to bs referred to the registrar for approval. On the application of Mr Harris, a motion for executors' commission in the estate of J. Dilloway, deceased, was referred to the registrar to report. In the case of Moore and anotlier v. Robertson and another, Mr Meares obtained an order for leave to sell property. ; Mr Bishop appeared in support of a mo- ; tion for the appointment of a new trustee in the estate of Henry Haddrell, deceased. The matter was ordered to stand over for further consideration. IN BANKRUPTCY. Mr Brown appeared in support of au application for the dischargo of James MUler, a bankrupt. The discharge was granted. Peter Ledsham was granted a discharge, on the application of Sir Mills. On the application of the Official Assignee release from bankruptcy was granted i iv the following cases: — Arthur Par'ris (dt j Springfield), F. W. C. Haslam (of Christehirreh), H. M. Lund (of Christohureh), W. J. Courtney (of Christchurch), J. D. M'Cahon (of Oxford), J. Thornton (of Christchurch), W. Grace (of Christchurch), j J. Scoon (of New Brighton), D. de Silva i (of Christchurch), H. Burson (of 'Chrisfc- ! church), W. J. Osborne (of Christchurch), G. H.. Saxton (of Marshlands), and F. G. H. B. Strong (of Christchurch). In the case of W. J. Sullivan, Mr Dougall moved to admit proof of debt. Mr Stringer appeared to oppose, on behalf of the Official Assignee. In the absence- of an affidavit setting forth the nature of the matter- to be investigated and the grounds of the application, his Honor or3ered the case to stand over till the nexfc bankruptcy -sitting. i[Pee Priss Association.] NAPIER, August 30. At the Supreme Court, Timothy M'Quinn, for assaulting Thomas Clifford, causdng actual bodily harm, was fined £20 and costs ; i in default, six months' imprisonment. j At the Supreme Court William Edmund Phillips was found guilty of assaultbig a girl wifch a bar of iron, and was remanded for sentence. The evidence went to Bhow that the accused was very eccentric, and the jury recommended him to the consideration of the Court, believing that at the time he committed tlie offence he was in a weak state of mind. INVERCARGILL, August 30. The Supreme Court sittings opened today, before Mr Justice Williams, who congratulated the jury. on the lightpesa of the calendar, there being; only two persons charged, one with fraudulent bankruptcy, and the other with forging a receipt, perjury, and obtaining money by false pretences, the charges arising froni ths^sale of a racehorse. The Grand Jury found true bills in both cases. Charles George Thurston pleaded guilty to fraudulent bankruptcy, and was sentenced to six montlis' imprisonment without hard labour.
