"* "** ♦ Features of this week's "Canterbury Times," in the illustrations, are*an excellent series "of snapshots of- the Otago-Can-berbury football match at Lancaster Park on Saturday ; incidents in the game between the British and Auckland representatives, with a good picture 'oi the' Auckland team ; the Governor's visit to Dunedin. Otago School Cadets marching past, his Excellency ; the ladies' golf championship, which wae commenced at the Shirley Links on. August 26, including a pretty group of competitors; champion birds at" the North Otago Poultry Show; Arbor Day at Kangiora ; the RussoJapanese war — the sanguinary fight . at Nanshan Hill; besides the usual miscellaneous collection of pictures . describing topical and other subjects. The thirteenth series of puzzle pictures, wliich appears amongst the illustrations, is on "Hidden New Zealand Towns." The reading pages also contain many ' interesting features. ASfiss Cabot, in the Ladies' Column, writes on topical matters, and an article on "The Best-paid Govetnee-s in the World" wf.l, no doubt, receive considerable attention. Amongst other articles, in which, ladies will find entertaining reading, may be men-tioned-"A Diet to Cure Bad Temper," "Training the Baby," "A Clear Complexion," " Ingrowing; Nails " and " The Men All Women Like." In the agricultural pages there is an article entitled "The Great North-West,"' by a recent New Zealand visitor to Canada, who writes from a- d'ff-oren}-' point of v:rv,- '-■' ' >hat of a recent contributor to the , "Canterbury

Farming notes from tha North Islandj North Otago and Southland give an account of the industry in those districts. .jviThe Garden Column contains some interesting fruit-growing notes from the North Island, and an article on apple-growing in Tasmania, whicb will repay careful perusal. " Trigger," in the defence pages, writes on a proposal to hold a mobilised camp of Public School Cadets ; the Sporting Column., besides the ordinary budget of race newe f has a fall list of entries for the Christchurcli Jockey Club's classic events ; -and the columns, devoted to athletics, football, wheeling, boxing, aquatics, tennis, bands, and chess and draughts and other pastimes are replete" with up-to-date information and interesting fact. In fiction there are many bright storiettes, including "Her Ideal, "The Czar's Douhle" and "A* Son oi Israel," besides the aerial, story, ' ■"»» Queen's Advocate."
