THE CITY COUNCIL.

TO THE KDITOII. Sir,— As the City Council meets next ] Monday evening to confirm by resolution, the heavy increased charge for the removing of nightsoil in the several wards, I would like to call the attention of small landowner burgesses like myself to the fatfc that it is proposed in the Central Ward to raise the price from 10s to 22s per pan ! (See City Council's advertisement, signed by the Town Clerk.) lam a strong advocate of sanitation, but why such an increase in charges? There must be extravagance or mismanagement on the part of the Sanitary Committee ! If ] t ] s bad financial arrangements, let us know at once, then wo ratepayers will know what to do iv the future. Ido not blame the last two ' elated gentlemen to tb e Council. It is bad j enough on those who are only partially j connected, but far worse for those who We ho sewers to connect with. It g©sms to mc want a -lev- good men at the Council I table. A lot of apathy m municipal matters? still exists. Perliapsj tlvi R last action of the Council will alter things. It is said there is nothing like getting at a man's Tio-ket Up mnke bim take an '"teres!., in anything- Time wIU tell -whether this is correct or not, for I feel positive that the rates %vill go up in tlie future.~l H1 „ t et(! . 1 . BURGESS. I . christcliurch, August 27. J
