[Per Prisss Association.] WELLINGTON, July 4. Th Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the Agent-General, dated London, July 2: — ''The mutton market is dull. The average price to-day of Canterbury mutton is 4£d per lb, Dunedin, Southland and Wellington Meat Export Company 4£d, other North Island mutton from 3|d to 4d, River Plate mutton 3|d. The lamb market is steady. The average price to-day of Canterbury brands ranges from s|d to s|d per lb, and brands other other than Canterbury from s£d to s|d. Beef is in much better demand. The average price to-day of hindquarters of New Zealand be€f is 3|d per lb, and of forequarters 2^d. _ The butter market is steady, and there is a moderate demand for choicest only The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is .89s per cwt. The cheese market is unsettled. The average price of finest New Zealand cheese is 40s per cwt-. The hemp market is steady, but without animation. New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-day is quoted at £30 per ton^ and July to> December shipments at £29 10s. Th« cocksfoot market is not quite so firm, the recent advance in price having checked business to some extent. The average price of bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, to-day is from 53s to 54s per cwt."
