"MUDDLING ALONG."
"We go muddling along out here," writes an officer who is now with the Somaliland field force. "We are spread abowt the country, and the Mullah, -who got tired of waiting' where he was, raided our camels the othex day, carrying off about one hundred of theinV Then he cut the telegraph line and looted the convoys. We are, to all intents and purposes, shut up Jiere, and cannot go very far out, as the bush is full of the Mullah's men. In the meantime, he is passing all his flocks, camels, etc., through our lines towards the Nogal district, where he means to stop, and we can do nothing to prevent him. owing~to our deplorable position as regards mounted men. We have not more than eighty all told, aiud ten deserted to the enemy the other day when out on patrol." We have food here for about another three weeks, and then we shall have to trek down countrj."- _ t ,
