The European Consuls have asked' that warships should be sent to Beyrouth Naziem Pasha, the Vali of Damascus, with two battalions, has been sent -to Bey* rcut to assume' direction of affairs. (The Mohammedans at Beyrout, on Se^> tember 6, attacked the Christians' quarter, killing ten, including one American, an 4 wounding ten severely. The British Consul at Beyrout has threatened to ask the American squadron to land marines in the event of a renewal of the disturbances. Beyfoukis a town on the coast of Syria, with a population of about 100,000. A few days fc ago^it was reported that an attempt had been made to murder the American Consul.)
