Mischief and its Punishment.— Fred Crop and John Robson, two lads, were charged with damaging a quantity of emery powder and an emery wheel to the extent, oi £2 hy throwing water upon it. The evidence was that the boys were employed in another factory, and one afternoon they entered the yard of Martin's Cycle Factory, which was open, and, using a jam tin, threw water over the wheel and powder. This made the wheel useless, and, as it was used for polishing purposes, a considerable loss resulted. They were observed and recognised from an upper window, and when it was discovered that they had been up to mischief 'an information was taken out. The boys said they had only dono the thing for a lark, and, in any case,, 2s 6d would cover the amount of the damage. One of them had previously been in the employ of the manager, MrGaudin, but had met with an accident, and had to go to the hospital. He went to Martin's factory to ask for some wages which he alleged were due to him. The. President said the boys had laid themselves open to a month's imprisonment. The Bench were prepared to take a lenient view of the cage, however, and each' accused would be fined 20s and costs, and be* ordered to make good the damage. I . \ I * *
