FIRES.

* [Per Pbess .Issck-iatton.] NAPIER, Jan. 20. A serious fire occurred at Hastings this morning, resulting in the destruction of three shops in the main street, occupied by J. P. Johnstone (fruiterer), W. Rend (bootmaker) and W. Conway (boot factory). Tho dwellings attached to Johnstone's and Conway's shops were also destroyed. The insurances were : — Johnstone's stock and furniture, £150 in the South Briti-sh Company; buildings (owned by Mr Schaeffer), £250 in the Liverpool and London and Globe Company ; Conway's building (owned by Messrs J. Collins and T. Dolbe-1), £150 in the New Zealand Company and £120 in the Alliance Company. R-ead's stock and furniture and Conway's furniture and machinery were not insured.
