THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION.
[From Otjr Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. For .-ears past the Wellington Cricket Association has been sadly crippled by a lack of funds. Now, for the ■ first time in its history, the Association has a shot in its locker of serviceable dimensions. Tlie match against Lord Hawke's team proved fortunate for the Association, the financial results far exceeding the wildest dreams of its ofßcials. Tlie takings at the gates, grand stand and reserved -seats totalled £606 10s, and the returns from tickets disposed of are expected to swell the figures to over £660. It is estimated that the three days' engagement attracted about 17,000 people, including the inevitable small boy. When everything is squared up, the Association is expected to net close, on £300. Wellington can fairly claim to have established a "cricket "gate" record on this occasion. The -visitors thoroughly enjoyed the game and their stay here, and speak in high terms of praise of the hospitality extended to them. — -
