THE TRAMWAY VOTE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — As several people have - shown ft . very limite-d-knowledge of the qualifications needed to exercise a vote, ■perhaps a few" brief notes from the Act may not pc amiss. My own information resembles Sam Weller's "wi-sion," and possibly you will be willing to rectify any error I may make. As Thursday's voting is not for any special loan, all tnose whose names are oh tha Tramways Roll can vote. All who voted at the last general ,eleotion may present themselves at a polling booth within their district. A freeholder with several qualifications may vote in any district most suitafele to his desires, or where l)is faveqrite candidate is standing. The •'occupier" o_ a property that pays rates may tvote. A, three months,' tenant, or sub-tenant, wha pays not less* than ten pounds per annum may vqte. The wife may vote as well as the hu-jbancl. As the City Town "Clerk compiled tho roll under the clauses drawn up in the Act for his guidance, it may not be bad advice to' ask all who voted at the last election to present themselves at some polling place pn Thursday. Not more than four names can be left unerased out of the sixteen on the ballot paper, for the Cbrist-chtircb-Sydenhani-S- Albans district.— T ? m. etc.; J- H. NEWLYN. Christchurch, Jan.' 20.
