May I—Upolu,l—Upolu, «.»., 700 tons, Rolls, for Akaroa, Timaru, Oaraaru and Dunedin. Union Steamship Company, agents. The s.s-. Toroa arrived from the Chatham Islands at 11.30 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. Rotomahana arrived from Wellington at 7.55 a.m. and the -s.s. Upolu from Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth at 9.50 a.m. to-day. . ■ The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's s.s. Bangatira is expected to arrive from London about Sunday. The Blackball steamer Dingadee came out of'dock at 8 a.m. to-day. Her compasses- were adjusted and she was moored at No. 5 Wharf. In dock she underwent considerable repairs, which were expeditiously carried out by Messrs Anderson, under the supervision of their "Lyttelton manager, Mr Justin. Three plates on the steamers bottom wero removed and replaced, by new ones. Her rudder post and stern post were straightened. New palms were welded on the old port bracket, the starboard, bracket was straightened, a new brass stern bush fitted, and a number of rivets were put into the vessel' 8 bottom. The Wellington " Post" states that Mr Nelson, second engineer of the Union Steamship Company's steamer Poherua, has been appointed chief engineer of the Government vessel Lady Roberts. His place on the Poherua has been taken 'by Mr Innis, formerly second engineer of the Rotorua. A very large number of passengers (says the "Wellington "Poet") will leave tie colony by the White Star steamer Athenic, which will take her departure for London on May 8, and already a great many berths in all classes have been booked. The next steamer to carry coal from Westport to Hongkong for the Admiralty (states the *' Post") is the Heathford. She is io leave TCewcastle on May 4, is due at Westport on May 10, and will have 5000 tons of coal placed on board.
