Maud v Mary Mackay, a young woman, was charged with stealing at Timarti, four , pairs of sho.es valued at £2 19s 3d, the. property of Harold Whittakerj and one pair valued at £1 10s, the property of Albert Prosser. Inspector Ellison applied for a remand to Timaru. Mr Cassidy, who appeared for accused, applied for bail, which was granted in one surety of £25.'i ■ Attempted Fbattd.— W. Hall was charged that he did, on Dec. 24, obtain from Annie Edmonds £1 3s 3d and one drink, valued at sixpence, by means of a valueless cheque. A fine of £2 was inflicted, with an alternative of seven days' Imprisonment.
