At the tallow, sales 2000. casks were offered and 1475 casks sold. Mutton, fine 28s 3d, medium 26s 6d; beef, fine 27s 6d, medium 265. ' , Silver is quoted at 2s 5 9-16d per oz. Messrs Dalgety and Companv, Limited, have received the following cable message from their London-' office under date Oct. 9:- . The wool sales opened with a fair selection, a large attendance of buyers, and. fairly animated competition, 'English buyers being the principal operators, As compared with closing rates of last series, prices' are, on the average;- 10 per. cent to 15 per cent lower for merino, 10 per cent lower for fine cross-bred, 5 per cent lower for medium oi'oss-bred, and titV par-'to 5 per cent lower for coarse cross-bred. We believe the present sales will continue without material change in prices. The dates of our own sales ua-e Oct. 10, 20, 29 and Nov. 1 and- 8.
