» [Fbom Our Corbespondent.] y WELLINGTON, June 20. As the members arrive the Opposition note still vibrates, still harping . on "my leader," but there is a remarkable change to-day. The morning paper pointed out this morning that it was a somewhat scurvy thing to belittle the man who had led the forlorn hopo of the Opposition so gallantly and so long. The evening paper came out with a proposition this evening for a joint leadership, Russell-cum-Allen, with a committee- centred about Mr Pirami. It is all fc.od for gossip. There is nothing dona, and nothing ready for doing- in the matter. Regarding the teetimonial to Mr Rigg, the report of the franking of the circulafrs is denied by Mr M'Girr, the chairman of the committee, and by ,Mr Naughton, the secretary. . So that My has to stick by the wall. The- air is full of rumours of Legislative Council appoimm&nts, but there is nothing authoritative, for the same reason that the Spanish fleet in the play was not in sight. Neither is there anything new in the matter of the much-oaavassed resignation. Up to the present there is no resignation. The question of Government whip excites o. mild interest* Who shall replace Mr M'Gownia? The -men in .the batting are Messrs Stevens, of Rangitikci, Mr Napier, of Auckland, and Mr Millar, of Dunedin.
