DISCHARGE OF TAILINGS.
♦ — " THE COMMISSION'S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 21. The Dredging Commission, appointed to inquire into the question of southern watercourses into which tailings may be discharged has submitted an interim report, in which it makes the following recommendations : — The Waiau and all its tributaries, except the Hollyborn, are to be proclaimed ; Kenny's Creek and the Ofepuki are not, to be proclaimed ; Ourawera' Creek, the Colac, and all its tributaries, are to be proclauoAd ; the Waikaka River, from its confluence with the Mataura River to the ford on the main road leading to Waikiki kwnshdp at the north boundary of Section 31, Block 111., of the Cbatton survey district, and also its tributaries, Garden Godly and its tributaries,- Shepherd's Creek from its confluence with the Waikaka to the northwestern boundary of Section 14, Block 1., cf , ; the Chatton survey district^ with all its tributaries up to the said boundary, and also to Little Waikaka River, or the eost branch, with all its tributaries to their t sources,, are t6 be proclaimed, and £4072; { compensation paid. Gold Creek , and' Charltori Creek axe not to be proclaimed.' A storm channel should be oc nstructed by ar- ' rangement 1 between the landowners and miners. Waimumu Creek is not to be proclaimed. The present storm channel should' be enlarged. The road and the railway bridges are not sufficiently large to carry off the flood water. The Waikaia River and all its tributaries are to be proclaimed, and £1335 10s compensation paid; Ihe Titipu and the Hedgehcpe streams are not to be proclaimed until prospecting has It en more extensively carried on.
