A STORY OF LORD BRAMPTON.
Mr Harry Furniss, who was end of the speakers at the Society of Anrts recently, told the amusing "story, of Mr Justice Hawkins (now l.oidl Brampton). The learned Judge had ai horror of draughts, and used to rlose i*p. every., cranny of his Court, to the great discomfort cf 'everybody. ■ Meeting a brother judge, the hitter eaid: "Oh I 1 Hawkins, I had a frightful dream thtf other night. I dreamt you were dead, and taken to Woking to be cremated.' I caught the last train down, and bribed; 1 the officials to let me peep through one of the loopholes of the cremate num. . All' .that I saw was a heap of ashes, but I' heard a voice cry oht: 'Shut the doory Keating, there's a draught here.'" "Keat- . ing," it may be added, was Lord Brampton'a clerk in ihis judicial. days.
