A CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.

[Peb Pbess Association.] NAPlfcB, Sept, 18. The Supreme Court was occupied to-day hearing the case of Joseph O'Connell, expolice constable, versus Sergeant Mitchell, claim £505 damages for alleged malicious prosecution. Plaintiff was arrested for robbing a man on the Waihora on the voyage from Gisborne to Napier, being then in chai-ge of two prisoners. He was committed for trial, but in the Supreme Court the jury found him not guilty. The basis of the present action was alleged malice on the part of Mitchell. O'Connell conducted his own case. The Chief Justice without calling on the defence gave a verdict for defendant with costs.
