A thorough examination of premises was then made, and what were supposed to be effective alterations in fireplaces all through the building were carried out. The captain of the Fire Brigade is of opinion, from what he has already seen, that defective chimneys are very common in Wellington, and are likely to be«a fruitful source of fires.
