HOW PROHIBITED PERSONS OBTAIN LIQUOR.
Prohibited persons in Invercargill, jud<r- " ing from what one of their number told Mi Poyntori. S.M.. on Thursday morning, are able to obtain an abundance of liquor, those who object to the restraint placed upon them having false friends, who purchase and hide the alcohol in places arranged by the parties, and by this means the law is evaded. His Worship, says the " Southland News," subjected a. victim of the alcohol craze, who. has a wife and large family, to a searching examination, with a view to ascertaining the identity of the persons who supplied him with drink, the evidence having shown that he could got as much as he wanted. In reply, however, he stated that he was unaware of Avho purchased ifc, another prohibited person, whose name he gave, having arranged the matter, though he got his share. The police experience considerable difficulty in discovering those who procure the liquor for these people, and the only way in which to jput a stop to it is to visit the offence, when proved, with salutary punishment.
