HORTICULTURAL SOCITY.
A'tneeting of the Council of the Canter^ foury (Horticultural Society was held yesterday ; .present — Messrs R. H. Rhodes (chairman), H. P. Murray-Aynsley, C. A. C. (Hardy, A. C. Murray-Aynsley, G. Humphreys, "N. L. D. Smith (acting secretary) and- 'Dr Levin ge. Apologies for absence were 'received from Dr Dendy and Mr Cockayne. !A donation of i 33 3s, to be devoted to special prizes, was received from Mr C. Perry. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted in connection with the Spring Show to be held on Sept. 23 and 24, and it was decided that entries would be received until 8 p.m. on Sept. 22. It was decided to request the Mayor to open the show. It was reported that -eight entries had been received for 'the "best garden" competition. It was resolved that entries should close on Sept. j!7, and that the judging should take place, weather permitting, on Monday next. k With ' the view of encouraging horticulture amongst children, the Society decided to offer three prizes of £1, 103 and 5s respectively for the best-kept children's gardens at any public school within a radius of five miles from the city, the judging to take place about March next.
