Monday, Sept. 12. (Before Mr T. Dyer, J.P., andMrlS.B. ' Webb, JJP.) Drunkenness. — Gustave Seamen, for ] being disorderly while drunk, was fined ss. ' — Charles Petersen, for a similar offence, 1 was fined ss, and was convicted and dis- 1 charged for resisting the police. 1 Alleged Stabbing. — George Myers 1 was charged with • stabbing Henry ( Hutcheson, chief officer of the steamer - Maori, on Sunday night. The evir dence of complainant was to the effect ; .that Myers is a refrigerating greaser i on board the Maori. Shortly after mid- ■: nifht on Sunday . witness heard a noise on J deck. Upon going to the galley he found ' the accuser' was quarrelling with a quarter- 1 master. Witness ordered the man to go s forward. This he refused to do, and wit- j ness then put him out of the galley. He : still refused to go forward, and witness and the Quarter-master proceeded to take ' him. While going down the steps witness "* felt a stab on the right arm between the elbow and the wrist, and upon looking at ' accused saw an open knife in his hand, s Witness called to the quarter-master and 1 they succeeded in getting the knife pro- i duced away from the man. To the accused: 1 Did . not strike you in the galley or on i the steps. Omar Itingsley, quarter-master, ' gave similar evidence. C. H. TJpham, 1 a duly registered medical practi- 1 tioner, testified to having examined 1 the complainant. The wound was a short linear puncture, and was not dangerous. , It would be very painful, and had bled a good deal. The accused said the chief officer had used undue violence, and he had been compelled to protect himself. The Bench said that they regretted they could not deal with the sase. Accused would be committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
