ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon, at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's rooms ; present — Messrs A. Carrick (chairman), A. Scott, G. B. Ritchie, J. N. Hamer, L. E. Clark, R. D. Harman, Hon J. T. Peacock, Major Richards and Dr Boyd. Correspondence ■was read from Mr E. Wilder on the matter of fish protection in the Ashley district, and a vote of thanks was accorded to that gentleman for his services. Another letter from Mr E. Wilder, asking if the society could supply any fry, -was referred to the Garden •,■..- Goininitti'e. The Bay of Islands Acclimatisaticn Society submitted ; for consideration certain recommendations:— (l) That it he at the discretion of each Acclimatisation Society as to •whether hen pheasants be taken or killed* (2) that the season for native'and imported game open and close together; (3) that the dates of opening and closing the shooting season be fixed by each society. The Colonial Secretary wrote asking what recommendation the society had to make with regard to the dates for opening and closing the season for shooting imported and native game, the amount of license, fee, &c. Both letters -were referred to the Garden Committee. The Agent-General and Mr George Jameson wrote stating that they would have pleasure in assisting Mr W. B. Izard in procuring red deer, pheasants and partridges for importation into Canterbury. The meeting shortly afterwards closed.
