Mondat, Oct. 19. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., and the Mayor.) Civil Case. — Mrs Silk, a Native, sued S. Moody for the sum of .£ll ss, alleged to be due for rent of three acres land near Kaiapoi. Mr Scott appeared for defendant. After the evidence of plaintiff, which the Magistrate said was of no use at all unless she had writings to prove her claim, Mr Scott said that his client was willing for the case to go on its merits. The Bench gave judgment for defendant, with costs £1 135," and told the plaintiff to come and have a talk over the lease, and perhaps there might be some way of calling it in.
