RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held last night ; present — the Mayor and Councillors Blackett, Foster, Carmichael, Good, Luxton, Sansom and Jennings. The absence of Councillors Shankland and Cone was apologised for. Correspondence was read from Mr D. Buddo, M.H.R., stating that .£IOOO had been voted for the Ashley bridge, and making suggestions with reference to the local bodies supplementing the amount, and respecting the nature of the work on which it is to be expended, i'rom Mr F. B. Lane, offering to attend to the town clock for the sum of £7 per year. The offer was accepted. From Mr J. C. Lock, declining to sell a portion of his land fronting on Good Street for a gravel pit reserve. The Works Committee reported that the land given by Mrs Torlesse for widening the roadway at the junction of King and John Streets was being fenced. It was recommended that the culvert in King Street should be proceeded with ; also that a concrete culvert should be put down in Ivory Street opposite Mr Nieholls's property. The Council decided to postpone the construction of the culvert in King Street till the beginning of next year. The culvert in Ivory Street was ordered to be made. The quarterly report was received from the poundkeeper, showing that £A- ISs 8d had been collected as fees. The financial report for the month showedreceipts^£l4Bs9d, and the bank overdraft £7 15s lid. Accounts amounting to £71 10s 2d were passed for payment. It was decided to prosecute butchers slaughtering in the borough who failed to procure licenses within a fortnight. The election of committees for the year was further deferred for a month. The Council then rose.
