ROAD BOARDS.

RICCARTON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held yesterday ; present— All the members, Mr H. J. Hall in the chair. Correspondence was read as follows: — From the Chief Surveyor, enclosing tracing of road adjoining R.S. No. 85, and asking if the Board" had made arrangements for increasing its width through Mrs Bassett's property, also on what conditions the Board would accept' dedication of a strip of land from R.S. 85 to make the road adjoining one chain wide. It was resolved to reply that Mrs Bassett was not prepared to give the land necessary to widen the road, but if the Govermneut would dedicate a strip to widen the remaining portion of the existing road from Mrs Bassett's to the Hon C. C. Bowen's the Board would form it full width, and from thence to the Middleton Road the Board would bear one-half the cost of formation. From the Spreydon. Road Board, calling attention to the necessity for defining , the side channel of the path on the Lincoln Road. Referred to the Surveyor. From Mr J. H. Baker (in reply) declining to give land from R.S. No. 70 to widen the Fendalton Road. From ] Mr Beswick, applying for a gas lamp on the corner of the Merivale and Millrace Roads. The Clerk was directed to communicate with the St Albans Borough Council and report at next meeting. From the Drainage Board, agreeing to expend ,£2O in widening the Riccarton main drain. The Surveyor's report was read, and the following resolutions were carried, viz. : — "That the St Albans Borough Council be asked to make a footpath from the Strowan Bridge to Leinster Road, about seven chains, this Board agreeing to bear one half the. cost ;" "That the Drainage Board be asked to increase the length of the brick sewer in the Fendalton Road about sixteen feet, to suit the increased width of the road ;" " That the road fronting R.S. No. 199 (about seventeen chains) be formed fuil width, and the path extended to the Hawthornden Road " " That Matson's Road be reformed from Free's to the main drain." Mr Nunweek gave notice to move the following motion at next meeting: — " That all roads laid off through private property after this date will not be taken over by the Riccarton Road Board until they are formed and metalled to the satisfaction of the Board." Accounts having been passed for payment, the Board resolved itself into a Board of Health. The following correspondence was read : — From Mr Jennings, complaining of stagnant water on the land adjoining his property. It was resolved to give the proprietor notice to abate the nuisance at once. From Messrs Swift and others, calling attention to the stagnant water on Laurence Street, Belfast. It was resolved to inform the proprietor that he must abate the nuisance at once. The meeting then closed.
