The accused admitted having been drunk, but said he remembered nothing . else. Constable M'Connell said that the > accused had got into a squabble with some $ marines, and he told him to go away I quietly home ; but he refused, and struck r witness on the face. In the lock-up he j struck witness again. The accused was 5 fined 5s for drunkenness and 40s for the assault, in default seven days' imprisonment. . Assault. — Henry Taylor was charged • with having on May 22 assaulted William I Augustus Callaghan, for whom Mr Johnt ston appeared. The defendant denied havt ing struck the complainant, but after I hearing the evidence the Bench fined him t 20s and costs, 355.
