LAND BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday ; present — Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands), A. C. Pringle, J. . M'Lachlan and D. M'Millan. The following applications were granted : — W. C. Page, section 35866, block XI., Wakanui, 24 acres 1 rood 36 perches, for cash ; M. E. Kane, section 36408 blocks VII. and XL, Waihao, 655 acres 1 rood, lease in perpetuity. Mr Kane's application for 140 aeresunsurveyedlandin the Waibao' district was refused, as he was not oligible to hold it, being separated from E.S. 36408, granted to him ; and it was resolved to withdraw rural section 36407 and the 140 acres from selection, and re-open them on pastoral lease at the present advertised lease-in-perpetuity rentals. The following leases-in -perpetuity were granted in exchange for perpetual leases, in terms of section 150 of the Land Act, 1892 : — Henry Odey, eection 3, reserve 1815, 50 acres, Waitaki; Thomas Mattingley, EectionßS6, Arowhenua Village Settlement, la lr o7p ; Matthew Lyons, section 8, reserve 1126, 31 a 12p, Waimate, and section 17, reserve 1126, 10 acres, Waimate; John Campbell, section 1, reserve 1128, 10 acres, Waimate. It was resoh^d to approve issue of title of perpetual lease, No. 56, Methven, to William Middleton. Several applications for transfer of leases and licenses were granted. It was resolved to recommend the Government to set apart lots 1 to 4, block 1., South Eangitata Township, as a ' reserve for the accommodation of travelling stock. A letter was -read from the Under-Secretary for Crown Lands relative to the cases of mortgagors to the New Zealand Loan arid Mercantile Agency Company. It was resolved that as , the concessions made by' the Company to Mrs Hayter and Messrs W. Saunders, Jones and James were not such as the Board expected, and as the case of the company in respect of the Balmoral Station had been dealt with by the Board on the same lines as other cases, the Board did not see its way to make any further recommendation as to runs 79, 81 and 82, Balmoral Station. It was resolved to approve of the issue, where practicable, of new licenses under The Land Act, 1892, in lieu of those under The Land Act, 1885, to pastoral tenants who had been granted relief under the Act of 1895. The Commissioner of Crown Lands laid before the Beard sale plans of the following lands :— Orakipaoa Estate, to be opened for application June 22; Crown lands at Cheviot, and lot 29, Block X., Lake Ellesmere, to be opened for application on June 24. It was resolved to approve of the disposal of the lands on the terms mentioned in the plans. The Board then adjourned.
