Eeferring to Opposition tactics, the Southern Standard remarks: — "It was said that that the Government had corruptly accumulated travelling expenses, while statements were circulated, and aire still being, circulated, that they derived personal benefit through their accounts with a bank being placed on a special list and written off. People are suspicious of those they place in power — and well they may be when they remember the colony's history — and these insinuations are given ready credence. But not one tittle of evidence, has so far been put forward in supjiort of those statements. In the absence of

Captain Eussell and his party are trying to usurp the splendid policy which the Government have courageously inaugurated in the face of strenuous opposition ; and, like the snake in iEsop's fable, the former are deadly enemies forever to those whom they once wronged."
