LIBERALISM IN THE NORTH.
The following is from Forward, a new Eadical weekly started in the Queen of the North : — " Matters electoral are developing in Auckland. The preliminary conference of labour bodies, held the other day.cleared the ground considerably, and performed useful work in throwing light on the political attitude of certain organisations. The action of the Liberal .Association in calling a general meeting of workers to make nominations for a Labour candidate is another important move which should produce good results. An electoral league, such as it is understood is in formation at Wellington, is much required in Auckland to consolidate all shades of the Party of Progress. Under the auspices of such a league, all grudges relating to previous elections should • be forgotten, the hatchet buried, and the pipe of peace handed round. Should this idea be thoroughly and loyally carried out, Auckland will, to a fair certainty, return the combined Liberal and Laboiu* trio — amid the sorrowful brays of the Opposition."
