COUNTRY NEWS.
Vaccination. — The Government vaccinator for the Rangiora district has been very busy lately on the day set apart for the work of his' office, over three hundred notices to parents to have their children vaccinated having been issued by the Registrar of Births. In some cases three or four children in a family had hot been operated upon. Rangitata Licensing Committee. — The annual meeting of the Rangitata Licensing Committee was held yesterday ; present — Messrs C. A; Wray, S.M. (chairman), M. C. Orbell, G. J. Dennistoun, D. M'Lean, T. Sealey, J. M'Quillan, Thomas Taylor and R. Thew. The police reports on all the houses in the district were satisfactory, and all the renewals applied for were granted. Anglers' " Social." — The anglers of Ashburton held a very pleasant social gathering at Devaue's Hotel, Ashburton, on Tuesday night. About fifty local anglers, with their friends, sat down to a very nice fish supper, provided by Host Devane. After supper a number of toasts were proposed and some capital songs were given, interspersed with reminiscences by Messrs Shury, Bird, Cambridge and others. West Eyreton. — The monthly meeting of the West Eyreton Band of Hope was . held on Thursday evening, Mr J. Addinell presiding over a crowded attendance. An .3 excellent programme was gone through to * the satisfaction of all present. — At the i railway goods tehed on Friday evening the ■ ladies ot' the district gave their annual ball. There was a very large and representative attendance, and the affair passed off most successfully. Mr A. Searell catered for the occasion and Mr J. Robinson acted as M.C. Greendale. — On Monday the quarterly meeting of the Greendale Primitive Methodist Church was held, and was attended by a good number of representatives from all parts of the station. The report showed the work of the church to be in a healthy state, the income exceeding the expenditure by some .£6. In the evening the usual social tea was held in the church, when there was a very large attendance of visitors and friends. At the after meeting Mr J. F. Rudd occupied the chair, and, speeches were given by Messrs Gamble! and H. Holland the Rev T. H. Lyon and Miss Sears, of Dunedin. A recitation was given "by Mr T. Carlisle. Miss Sears sang " Remember Now Thy Creator " and Tennyson's " Too Late " in very pleasing style.
