KIRBY'S ESCAPE.
A SUSPICIOUS FIND IN SYDNEY. I Per Press Association, j SYDNEY, June 2. Tho polico closely watched the discharge of the Talune's cargo to-day in the event of Kirby having stowed away in the hold. Amongst the goods was si suspicious-looking case loosely closed, which attracted attention. On being opened, it was found to contain a qtiantity of biscuits, two loaves of bread, two empty bottles, which had apparently been filled with water, and some clothes. On a closer search being made a bank draft in favour of Kirby was found, and also an envelope, containing the address of a friend of his resident in Sydney, on whom it is stated he intended to call, together with a message to a friend. The police are exercised as to whether this find is a ruse or not. SYDNEY, June 3. The police hold the opinion that Kirby did not come to Sydney by the Talune. WELLINGTON, June 3. A resident here states that he saw Kirby, disguised, in Molesworth Street on Monday night, but tho police think this unlikely, although they believe that he is still in Wellington. j
