DEBATE IN THE COUNCIL.
A.E 4.01/ p.m. ioh repuEir vi i/uo jumi committee on the Bank of New Zealand and Aaseta Company was submitted by the Hon C. C. Bowen and read. Sir P. A. Buckley stated that oopieß of the report and documents attached to it would be in the hands of members that evening, and he gave notice that the report should be considered when a Bill embodying its provisions oame up from the House. This, be thought, would be the best way of considering the convenience of the Counoil. The Hon S. E. Shrimski asked if the report was a unanimous one. The Hon 0. C. Bowen replied that it was. The Hon J. D. Obmond pointed out that the Bill wonld not come to the Council till it had been passed in another place. He also suggested that eaoh member should receive several copies of the report. The Hon R. Phabaztn asked when the Bill- would come to the Council. He approved of the course suggested by the Colonial Secretary. Sir P. A. Buckley oould not say when the Bill would reach them, and not having been on the committee was ignorant of the contents of the papers attached to the report. The Hon J. D. Obmond (a member of the committee) said that the Bill was to be introduced in the Honse of Representatives that day. The Hon J. Rwa asked for an assurance that sufficient time wonld be given to consider the report before the disoussion came on, which assurance Sir P. Buckley gave. Ths Counoil adjourned till 2.30 on Thursday.
