KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the above Council was held last evening ; present — The Mayor and Councillor Weeton, Ma thews, Hopkins, Doubleday, ClarJr, Bugg, Drabble* Blakely and Simpßon. Correspondence was received : —From Mr Thomas Heney offering £1 per year for the weatern part of Darnley Square, and agreeing to fence the same. Lett in the hands of the Works Committee. From Mr J. fl. Blaokwell, jun.aekinßpermiEsion to place a crossing out of Smith Street on to his section. Agreed to. From Mr Bnddo, M.H.R., enclosing seeds suitable for planting in the Domain. Accepted with thanks. From the same relative to the Railway platform extension* and from Railway- department promising that the work should beput in hand atonce.From the Lighting Committee, stating; that it bad tried the now vapour lights on the bridge, and recommended that two or three should be procured. Agreed to. It was resolved to have various lamps and poets painted during the summer, and that another one be erected in Akaroa Street. The Surveyor's report showed that out of the funds for work there was a balance of about £50, which would be absorbed in the domain and on * the Cam bridge ; the sum of £4 43 had been received from Mrs Mehrtens towards the footpath along her property in Dale Street. The Finance Committee reported receipts £80 5s sd, debit balance £684 4s lOd, accounts for payment £119 19a 7d. Several minor matters were left in the hands of the Works Committee. The Mayor brought forward the queation of the Looal Government Bill, and it was resolved that the Council request the member, Mr Buddo, to vote for its postponement till next session. A tender from Mr Storer to ehingle the Beach Road had been accepted at 6a 6d per yard. The notice of motion by Councillor Clark relative to the gate croßßing the road by Holland's, on being put to the vote, was lost. The proceedings then terminated.
