. [Sfkcial to Pbbss Association.] THE BROKEN HILL MINE. SYDNEY, August 27. The fire in Block 11 Mine at Broken Hill is tstill smouldering. The ground continues to subside, opening up new crevices from which a considerable amount of smoke is issuing, besides an increasing rise of a large quantity of carbonic acid gas. Water is again being poured into the mine. The management iB now less hopeful of extinguishing the fire within a reasonable time. THE SEAHAM COLLIERY FIBE. In the opinion of experts it will be weeks before it will be safe to reopen the Seaham colliery. It is feared that the Bealing up of the shafts will cause the generation and e/plosion of foul gases, with consequent serious damage.
