1 ' The Otago l t)dity T\im*' announces the death, shortly af tertwo , ofclocfc yejaterdayy morning, after a prolonged illness,. of Mr Edmund Smith,,. the well-known manager of the Dnnedia, Savings 'Bank, and f^itpr and general treasurer for the Presbyi^rian qhuroh Board of -Propertyi^ ■■■■ The dece^eed gentleman, who waa generally, esteemed, ;was sixty-five years of »ge. He wasfborn aVMadras, where.hisi father* the, Eev John i^mithj, was. a mißaionary. He arrived .in' Otago by the John Wickfin'e 1 on March 28, 1848, and some tinie afterwards engaged iii farming at Korißußh'. He then ramoyed to Dunedin, and was^engaged by Mr Eeynolda in his bonded warehouse. When the Dunedin, Savings Bank wb& ' founded some twenty-eight years ago Mr Smith was appointed manager, and retained t)ie position up to the time of his death.
