Chtjech History. -r> The Rev A. W. Avecill delivered his second lecture on the " History of the Church of England " in St Michael's schoolroom laßt evening. There was a large attendance. The lecturer dealt in an interesting manner with the history of the Church from the eighth 'century down to the fifteenth century', ref errin g chiefly to the influence exerted by the Normans on theOhurob. The principal characters touched upon were Alfred the Great, Dunstan, Thomaß a'Becket, Stephen Langton and Sb Hugh of Lincoln. Mr Averill, in conclusion, referred to the character of King John and the signing of Magna Charta. The lecture was illustrated by lantern slides, which were shown by Mr E. W. Seager.
