PECULIAR ACCIDENT WITH FIREWORKS.

On the night of May 24, at North Sydney, a boy about eight years of age, named Horton Underwood, met with a peculiar! accident. It appears that he had visited some friends in order to celebrate the Queen's Birthday with fireworks. A cracker failed to explode, when the lad picked it Up and laughingly essayed ah illustration of how he would smoke a cigarette by placing the firework in hw mouth; when the cracker went off. Later the lad was attended by Dt B. J. Newmarch, who found that his mouth and throat were badly burnt j and on the following afternoon the doctor found it necessary to perform tracheotomy, which he did ia the preßenoe of Dr Clark. Owing to some matter having lodged in the lungs inflammation supervened, and the boy was in a critical condition.
