Mr John M'Lachlan, member for ABhburton, addressed a large number of farmers and others from Mr David Thomas's rostrum, in the Arcade, Ashburton, on Saturday afternoon. He spoke for aboub an hour on topics of local interest. He addressed a large meeting at the Town Hall, Rakaia, on Saturday night, Mr W. Strachan in the chair. Mr M'Lachlan apologised for hia conduct at the la6t meeting, and promised that Buch a thing should never occur again. He apoka for an hour and a half to a fairly attentive audience.' After answering questions he received a vote of thanks and confidence.— Mr Meredith met the View Hill settlers, by invitation, at the Woodstock schoolroom, on Friday last, to confer i with them as to the means of increasing the size of their holdings. Mr C. M. Lugar was voted to the chair. It was stated that holdings cf fifty acres of poor land wore too little to afford a decent living, particularly as there was no demand for labour ia the locality. Mr Meredith Baid that he had long been aware that the holdings were too small, and he and others, including the Minister of Lands, had endeavoured to find means to augment them. All he could promise was to use his influence to obtain for the settlers the two hundred acre 3 of land adjacent, the lease of which was about to expire. Vote 6 of thanks to Mr Meredith and the Chairman closed the meeting. On the came day Mr Meredith met a large number of electors in the schoolroom at Woodside, Mr Arthur Wright occupying the chair. After a lengthy address, in which he touched upon the more important subjects of the day, a vote of confidence in Mr Meredith and in the Government was passed unanimously.
