NEW BRIGHTON TROTTING CLUB.

The following handicaps have been declared for the meeting to, be held on Saturday, June 11:—•5 :— •

MAIDEN HANDICAP TROT (in saddle), of 20 boys. One milo.

Oddfellows' "Social." — The anniversary "social", ia connection with the Loyal City of Christchurch Lodge, L0.0.F., M.U., was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Lichfield Street, last evening, and was largely attended. Members of sister Lodges were present. Dancing formed the principal attraction, and was entered into with great spirit by a large number of those present. The music waa eupplied by Mr C. H. Fox's String Band, and the catering was well carried out by Mr W.Edwards.

Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union. — Tho half-yearly meeting of this Union was held in Trinity Congregational Church on Thursday. At the afternoon meeting there was a good attendance, and the President (Rev R. Erwin) occupied the chair. The Rev .C. Porter, of Darfield, delivered an address. Mios Munnings introduced the subject of "Work Amongst the Juniorß," which was well discussed. In the evening the church was well filled. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr Hercus (one of the vicepresidents) occupied the chair. Dr Elmslie delivered an address on "The Christian Edeavour Society in Relation to the Congregation." The Rev Sydney Baker also gave an address. The Chairman congratulated the Union on its bucceau and rapid growth, and the proceedings were brought to a close by the Benediction. Mias Taylor presided at tho organ at the afternoon session, and Mr Owen officiated in tho evening.
