BOMBAEDMENT OF A FORT.

The German gunboat Itlis bombarded and silenced a Chinese fort at Hove, because the authorities prevented the departure of a steamer carrying Fang Ching, President of the Pormosa Bepublic. The steamer afterwards proceeded on her way to the town Taipehafa in Pormosa, where a powder magazine was set fire to and exploded, Killing ninety
persons.
