Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral association.
The annual general meeting of the Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held in Spring's Eeeston Hotel on Thursday. There waß a good attendance of members. Mr L. Mathins occupied the chair. Apologies for absence wero received from Mr D. M'Millan, president, and Mr C. C, Smithson, treasurer.
The annual report stated that the past year had been a successful one. The receipts amounted to .£487 9s Bd, and the expenditure to £478 17s 2d, leaving a small credit balance. The assets showed a balance of £31 ls over liabilities; The receipts from entries and privato don ation 3 had been more than those of the previous year, but members' subscriptions had been much less. iThe expenditure had been increased by £57, which sum had been expanded in new works at the showgrounds, including forty-seven new yards, hurdles, ticket office, and a fountain and basin to tho artesian well. The Government Department of Agriculture had forwarded to tbe Association a number of valuable reports which had been distributed among the members. The rues and by-laws of the Association had been amended by a Select Committee, and a copy had been sent to every member. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr John Barnett, the report and statement of accounts were adopted. The following officers were elected for the year:— Patron, Mr John M'Lachlan, M.H.R- ; president, Mr Lewis Mathias ; vice-president, Mr G. E. Rhodes; treasurer, Mr C. C. Smithson ; auditors, Messrs R. Lochhead and R. London ; general committee, Messrs J. Barnett, W. Bishop, John Boag, D. Cant, A. Chamberlain, J. M. Furze, T. B. Howson, H. Hight, F. Jameson, R. Lochhead, W. G. Lunn, D. M'Millan, W. M'Millan, W. A.Nixon, J. Osborne, H. Phillips, John Rennie, D. Bcott, J, BtackhouBe, T. Tolerton, W. Watson, W. Watson, jun., C. Withell and G. Stephens, sen. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers, and a special vote of thanks was pa.sod to those who had assisted the show with donations. The sum of £500 was voted for the use of the committee for the year. On the motion of Mr A. M'Lachlcn, seconded by Mr Howson, the prize in the pony jumping competition at the last show was awarded to Mr G. Baxter's pony. A special vote of thanks was passed to the Secretary, Mr T.'W. Durant, with a bonus of £5, in recognition of his services.
After dealing with matters of a routine nature the meeting closed.
