WELLINGTON NEWS.

j_Peb Pbebs Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. Sergeants Kelly nnd Bernard, of Auckland, are to be moved to Wellington, and Sergeant Gilbert, of Waimate, to Dunedin. These transfers are in consequence of the ' decision to pay house allowance to police sergeants, it having been decided to move them from smaller stations to the centres where their services are more in request. Feb. 24>. Shortly after noon yesterday heavy rain began to fall, and continued throughout the rest of the day. The wind blew very hard from the south, and to-day it is very bleak and cold, a complete contrast to the extremely hot weather experienced during the whole of last week.
