The usual weekly meeting of the Bawhih Assembly of Knights of Labour waa held on Wednesday, the Master Workman presiding/ There was a good attendance. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Labour with reference to the appointment of employes to public institutions being made through the Labour Bureau, and on the subjeot of the diamis-al of the second master of the Waitaki High Sohool. From Mr £urn, acknowledging a letter of sympathy from the Assembly. Prom the Dunedin Assembly, covering resolutions adopted by that body. It was resolved— "That thiß Assembly desires to bring under the notice of the Government that tbe coal-mines of the colony are being worked under a system which results in a most extortionate overcharge being levied upon all private consumers of coal, and this Assembly trusts that the Government will during therecess consider the position, with a view to taking into serious consideration the advisability of taking oyer the working of the whole of the coalmines of the colony under, the direot control of the State "; •• That the Master Workman be deputed to represent this Assembly at the public meeting to be held at Oamaru to consider the action of the Waitaki High School Board in dismissing Mr Burn without assigning a reason"; " That this Assembly protests against the farce of bringing in Billß eesiion after session, with the apparent intention of withdrawing them again, and also protests against the delay in the Land for Settlements Bill "j " That a hearty vote of appreciation be tendered to Mrs Garmson, the ! Maßter Workmaa, for her a trenuouß and successful efforts on behalf of the cause of labour in frustrating the tactics of the agents of the Pastoralists* Union against | the Australian Shearers' Union."

On Wednesday night a emoke concert was tendered to the delegates, the president of the looal Union in the chair, on his right being the guests of the evening. The toasts proposed were— "The Delegates," by the president, responded to by Mr Elliott; "The Federal Counoil," by Mr Williams, responded to by Mr E. Fergusson; "The Liberal Party," by Mr Milligan, replied to by Mr Miles ; " Christchurch "Union," by Mr Arnold (Dnnedin), and replied to by Mr S. Crooke. The following gentlemen contributed an excellent programme of vocal items :— Messrs Scrimgeour, Pearce, Fawcett, Williamson, Maurice (2), Hugo, Foley, Sates and Amsden, and Mr Kemp a recitation. Mr Angus aoted as pianiefc. Three cheers were given for Mr P. Burke, the host, and tha singing of " Auld Lang Syne "by the company brought to a termination a very enjoyable evening.
