SWIMMING.

[Pxr Pbiss Association.] WELLINGTON, Mabch 20. The race for the amateur swimming championship of Wellington, over a distance of two hundred yards, under the auspices of the Wellington Rowing Club, was decided this evening. There were five competitors, including H. H. Dacre (of the Auokland Swimming Club) and N. J. Griramett (of the Sc Clair Swimming Club, Duuedin). The tace resolved itself into a great struggle between the two visitors, who were on leve'. tsrma for th« whole distance. GrimmeU finished about a foot in front of Dacre, but as he was considerably out of tho course, was disqualified, and the fleet place awarded to the Auokland man, who nwam with excellent judgment. B. C. Rentier (Oriental Boating Club), the next man, was about five yards behind.

A meeting of the Committee of the East Christchurch Amat9ur Swimming Club waa held at the school, Gloucester Street, on Monday evening; present — Messrs Partridge (chairman), Taylor, Le Merrier, Lightband, Johnston and R. 0. Duncan (hon secretary). A statement of accounts showed that the recent race meeting had been a financial suoces?. The Secretary was instructed to write to the swimming cludb in Christchurch and ascertain their views regarding holding an associated smoke concert. After passing accounts for payment the meeting terminated.
